Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena is satisfied with the point the Brazilians picked up during their goalless draw with Sudanese side Al-Hilal in a CAF Champions League Group B match at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Sudan on Friday.
The draw meant that Sundowns maintained their unbeaten run as they have won four and drawn once. The Brazilians had already qualified for the knockout stages when they travelled to Sudan.
“We knew that the team has improved a lot. We knew we had to play very good football. Maybe in certain moments in the first half we dropped too early. We were much better in the second half, we pressed a bit higher. We are satisfied with the result,” Mokwena said.
Mokwena is impressed with the work Portuguese coach Ricardo Manuel Nunes Formosinho has done in the three weeks he has been with Al-Hilal.
“It’s fantastic Africa can recruit a coach of his calibre. It’s not always easy to give a team your foot print as a coach particularly in a short space of time. Ever since he arrived the possession of the team has risen, which is good,” Mokwena said.
Meanwhile, Formosinho had some goods words about the Brazilians whom he described as a good team.
“Sundowns are a good team with good strategy. They have very good players. Congratulations to Sundowns,” the Portuguese said.
