A history-making 5-1 win over a hapless Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday brought a smile to fiery Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp.
It was the first time in the history of the Team of Choice that they scored five goals in a match.
“This is a huge, huge step. We had a problem in the first 18-20 minutes of the match. All of a sudden we started to work after they scored. We are still making mistakes, there is a place for improvement,” Middendorp said.
Meanwhile, under pressure Chilli Boys coach Dan Malesela admitted that the Team of Choice were hungrier than them.
“We were mostly beaten by determination and all the mistakes we made in the game. The hunger to want to win as opposed to what Maritzburg was offering was not the same. The will to go forward was not the same,” Malesela said.
“We were beaten by our mistakes. The sooner we learn to get matured and be a bit disciplined, the better. It’s no time to complain because if we keep complaining we won’t be able to fix anything.”
