Siphelele Mkhulise has revealed that they never panicked when results were not forthcoming for his team Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sundowns midfielder added that their coaches instilled patience on them and that was evident when they beat Orlando Pirates 3-0 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday.
Mkhulise put up a great performance, which earned him a man-of-the-match award.
“It was a very tough match. But what I loved is that we managed to do the things, which the coaches asked us to do. I think we did everything accordingly. We had to work very hard because nothing comes easy,” Mkhulise said.
Mkhulise also revealed that the three Sundowns coaches – Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela – advised them to take it easy and be patient during the game something which worked for them.
“The coaches asked us to be patient on the ball and also play as a team. They also advised us against rushing things because we might lose possession and then be caught on the counter. That’s what Pirates did in the first half. I think they caught us on the counter twice,” he said.
The Brazilians went to the Pirates match on the back of two draws and a defeat. And some football followers believed that the wheels had come off.
“We were not worried. The coaches also told us not to worry. They asked us to focus on what we do and we would come right. There was no reason for us to panic,” Mkhulise said.
