There is nothing that Makhehleni Makhaula would love more than seeing his team AmaZulu win their match against Swallows FC.
Usuthu meet the Dube Birds in a DStv Premiership fixture at the King’s Park Stadium in Durban on Wednesday (17h00).
The AmaZulu midfielder is expected to play a key role against Swallows as Usuthu want to snap a two-match losing streak. Usuthu lost to Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates in their last two matches.
“The focus is really high. The confidence is really high. We come from a loss to Orlando Pirates. We are ready to fight for the second spot,” the bearded midfielder said.
“It’s gonna be a tough match, but we have the advantage of playing at home. It’s all up to us to secure the second spot so that we can go to the CAF Champions League.”
Usuthu are second on the Premiership table with 50 points from 28 matches. Their opponents, who have drawn 20 times this season, are fifth with 43 points in 28 games.
“We know Swallows, they do draw games. They do want to win games also. We don’t have to relax because they like equalising in the dying minutes of the game. We need to be clinical,” Makhaula said.
The 31-year-old player from Mohlakeng, Randfontein, is one of the three nominees for the Midfielder of Season award. He is competing with Rivaldo Coetzee and Themba Zwane from Mamelodi Sundowns.
