Eric Tinkler didn’t worry much when his team Cape Town City were trailing against relegated Black Leopards at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Citizens coach knew that his boys would come back into the game and win it. They did exactly that as they beat Lidoda Duvha 3-1 and sent them to the GladAfrica Championship.
“First half, I thought we were a little bit unfortunate to find ourselves 1-0 down. We dominated in terms of possession. I don’t think they really came at us,” Tinkler said.
“Like I said, lots of possession, but not enough penetration. Half time, we had to fix that. I thought we did that. We created a lot more spaces. We started to have more width.”
This was Tinkler’s first match and win since he returned to the Citizens last week following the sacking of Dutchman Jan Olde Riekerink almost a fortnight ago.
Leopards coach Morgan Shivambu, meanwhile, believes that they let it go in the second half after leading 1-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
“What I can say is that we started the game very well if you check the first half. We managed to contain them. Second half, we knew they were gonna come at us. I don’t think we managed to contain them,” Shivambu said.
