Thabo Senong has resigned as Lesotho senior national team coach just less than two weeks before Likuena play in the COSAFA Cup tournament in Gqeberha.
The news of 40-year-old Senong’s resignation was confirmed by the Lesotho Football Association on Friday.
The Lesotho FA added that the former South African national Under-20 coach stated in his letter of resignation that he had received an offer elsewhere.
“The NEC has accepted the resignation letter with a heavy heart. Mr Senong was employed as national team coach in August 2019. His resignation has come as a surprise to the leadership of LeFA as he had already announced his team and started the bio-bubble camp for the upcoming regional tournament set for Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa,” a Lesotho FA statement read.
The Lesotho FA has since appointed its technical director Leslie Notsi as Likuena coach. Likuena have been drawn in Group A in the COSAFA Cup together with South Africa, Botswana and Eswatini.
