Mdantsane-born boxer Lusanda Komanisi survived frightening moments in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
The former world champion was caught up in the mayhem taking place in Johannesburg where protesters were causing all sorts of problems.
“I visited a friend and came back around 20:00 or past. On my way home at around 20:35 I passed Alexandra around Bramley all I received was stones, petrol bombs and gunshots around my girlfriend’s car,” Komanisi wrote  Facebook.
“Cars turning around and running for cover, I pressed my accelerator, terrified, praying and confused at the same time. Luckily, I got home and ran inside the house without even locking my door or looking at the car. Few minutes later after recovering I went back with my partner to check on the car, just to check on what happened because I had just told her everything. Thank you God for saving my life.”
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion had only been in Johannesburg for a few hours when he suffered the ordeal.
He had arrived back from East London where he stopped Sinethemba Bam in the first round during their fight on Saturday afternoon.
