Benni McCarthy is satisfied with what he has seen at his team AmaZulu as they prepare for Sunday’s MTN8 quarter-final clash against Cape Town City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban at 18h00.
The Usuthu coach is confident that his boys will advance to the next round of the competition even though he does not underestimate the Citizens.
“The enthusiasm is there. The ultimate goal, the passion. When you know the passion is there everything else in my body functions,” McCarthy said.
“We brought a lot of passion to the side now. Everyone is just excited. Players believing that we can do even better than we did last season.”
Usuthu finished second behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns last season and McCarthy now expects a better performance against his former team.
“Sunday is a fantastic test because I think Cape Town City always have something special about them. They have some phenomenal players,” he remarked.
“They have brilliant players. They are a well-organised team. I should know better because I was part of it. It’s gonna be exceptionally difficult now that they have Eric Tinkler as the coach. Everyone knows that Eric is a disciplinarian, so he will bring discipline to the side, a better structure. They will be exceptionally hard to beat, hard to play against. It won’t be like the game we played at the Cape Town Stadium. So, it’s gonna be an interesting, exciting game. I’m very confident in the passion that I have at the moment.”
