Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has trimmed his squad from 31 to 23 players ahead of the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana in September.
The former Indomitable Lions coach made the announcement in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Broos has opted for three goalkeepers – Ronwen Williams (SuperSport United), Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu) and Bruce Bvuma (Kaizer Chiefs). He dropped Sifiso Mlungwana from Lamontville Golden Arrows, who was in his original 31-man squad.
The 69-year-old Belgian has stuck with Percy Tau, who is unsettled at English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
“He is an important player for Bafana Bafana. If he doesn’t play in the next month I will have a problem,” Broos said referring to Tau.
Bafana Bafana will come up against Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Friday, 3 September at 15h00. They then face Ghana’s BIack Stars at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Monday, 6 September at 18h00.
Meanwhile, Broos has disclosed that he will meet with his assistants and team manager to decide who should wear the captain’s armband.
