Former world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete will finally return to action in November, two years after his last fight.
Ink Sport has gathered that the erstwhile lnternational Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion is going to face an opponent from the Philippines in Gauteng.
“Yes, l travelled to Johannesburg recently,” Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Tete also confirmed that he’s returning to action on 28 November. Tete has not fought since he lost his WBO belt to Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero in November 2019.
“Nothing has been finalised yet even though I know that l’m going to fight in November,” he said.
Tete is going to fight in the same tournament where former lnternational Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight champion Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni is going to clash against Sonny Katiandagho from the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Tengimfene has revealed that Tete is being trained by his elder brother Makazole with former SANABO president Andile Mofu assisting him.
Tengimfene also revealed that he’s negotiating with Tete’s former trainer Loyiso Mtya for a possible return to All Winners Club.
“Mqadi (Mtya) is still part of our team. There are a few issues we are ironing out with him,” Tengimfene concluded.
