Shervantaigh Koopman became the new South African junior-middleweight champion after he dethroned Simon Dladla at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday evening.

A short right hand from Koopman floored Dladla in the seventh round. The 27-year-old Koopman was ahead on points when he stopped Dladla.

And this was Dladla’s second successive stoppage loss having been stopped by Roarke Knapp in December last year.

Koopman has now won all his eight fights – six inside the distance – while 26-year-old Dladla dropped to six wins and two defeats.

Meanwhile, Cowin Ray was crowned the new SA super-middleweight champion after a ninth round technical knockout win over Frank Rodrigues.
