Hugo Broos has admitted that Ethiopia whom they meet in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Bahir Dar International Stadium on Saturday are a quality side.

The Bafana Bafana coach and his boys left for Ethiopia on Thursday and will be back in South Africa on Sunday.

“The opponents have some qualities, so we have to be careful,” the former Cameroon national team coach said.

“But on the other side, it’s what we are going to do when we have the ball. We had another session, the players understand now what we have to do when the opponents have the ball.”

The 69-year-old Broos wants to make sure that Bafana Bafana take control of the match and give the Ethiopians no space.

“I think we will try to have the game under control. If we don’t control the game, we will suffer for 90 minutes. Once we have the control of the game then we can do what we like to do,” Broos remarked.

Remaining on top of the group is key to Broos thus he wants to win on Saturday. Bafana Bafana have four points after winning once and drawing once while the Ethiopians have three points from a win and a loss.

“If you want to be first you have to win points outside. So there are two occasions – Saturday and next month in Ghana. Logically, it’s easier to win in Ethiopia than go to win in Ghana because Ghana is a better team than Ethiopia. So, we’ve got the chance to do it,” Broos said.
