Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has paid tribute to the most decorated Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana.

Mosimane paid the tribute after Kekana’s 10-year marriage with the Brazilians came to an end on Thursday.

“Captain my captain! Hlompho Kekana, what an honour to have had the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for being one of the greatest people in the football community. You’ve been the most successful captain that Mamelodi Sundowns FC has ever had, winning every South African football trophy during your time. Your shoes will be hard to fill and your legacy will live forever,” Mosimane wrote on his Facebook page.

Mosimane started working with Kekana when joined Sundowns on December 2012 following the departure of Dutchman Johan Neeskens. Mosimane’s working relationship with Kekana ended when the coach joined the Egyptian giants in October last year.

Zebediela-born Kekana whose contract was going to expire at the end of this season played more than 350 matches in the decade he spent at the Brazilians.

He lifted six league titles, two Nedbank Cup trophies, two Telkom knockout trophies, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup.

Kekana made history in March 2012 when he scored seven goals in Sundowns’ 24-0 humiliation of Northern Cape amateur side Powerlines FC in a Nedbank Cup match.
