Having tested positive for COVID-19 on the eve of his clash against Lindile Tshemese, Athenkosi Dumezweni is now ready to fight for the South African junior-bantamweight title again.

Dumezweni and Tshemese were due to face off, for the third time, in November last year, but the fight didn’t take place after the Mthatha boxer contracted COVID-19.

“I think my fight is going to be in February. I have been in the gym since recovering from COVID-19. Actually, I didn’t feel anything when I tested positive for COVID-19. My aim is to reclaim my title. I’m confident that I will win the title again,” Dumezweni said.

Dumezweni has fought twice against Tshemese with both bouts ending in stoppages. Tshemese stopped Dumezweni in December 2016 and the Mthatha-born boxer, who is trained by Damien Durandt in Johannesburg, avenged the defeat when he stopped the East Londoner in August 2018.
