Under normal circumstances, Matshidiso ‘Scorpion Queen’ Mokebisi should be happy to have retained her South African female junior-featherweight title after her fight against Monalisa Takane at the Feathermarket Theatre in Gqeberha on Sunday.
Unfortunately, that is not the case as the Kroonstad lass is unhappy with the Nelson Mandela Bay judges’ score cards.
Stephen Simon scored the fight 97-91, Nkosinathi Zamela 93-96 and Vuyokazi Ncata 94-94.
Now Mokebisi wants to settle the matter once and for all by giving Kirkwood-born Takane a rematch.
“I should be happy to have successfully defended my title. Unfortunately, I’m unhappy with the judges’ score cards. I’m looking forward to giving Monalisa a rematch. I have spoken to the promoter and he is willing to stage a rematch,” Mokebisi said.
Speaking about the actual fight, Mokebisi said: “It was a nice fight for me. To be honest, she tried her best. The fight was not tough at all.”
This was the fourth time Mokebisi fought this year having beaten Zimbabweans Patience Mastara and Chiedza Homakoma.
She lost to Katie Healy from Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom when they fought for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) female junior-featherweight title in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, three months ago.
