Winning the MTN8 trophy is on top of AmaZulu captain Makhehleni Makhaula’s wish list as Usuthu are going to face Orlando Pirates in the final scheduled for the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.

Makhaula from Mohlakeng in Randfontein is going to lead Usuthu as they attempt to win their first trophy since winning the 1992 Coca-Cola Cup.

“It’s a dream come true for me because it’s my first final as a captain,” the former Free State Stars midfielder said.

The 32-year-old Makhaula also added that the spirit is high at the Usuthu camp after they registered their first win under coach Romain ‘Fohloza’ Folz when the beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 at home last Sunday.

“I tell the players we are the warriors. I always tell them if we are going to war, let’s go to the war and fight. There’s nothing important than fighting together. Defend together and attack together,” Makhaula remarked.

This is the first time since 2010 that Usuthu play in a cup final. They were beaten 3-0 by Wits University in the Nedbank Cup final in May 2010.
