A vintage Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni decked Apinun Khongsong four times before stopping him during their international lightweight bout at the The Globe, Sun Coast Casino, in Durban on Thursday evening.

Khongsong from Thailand started very well taking the fight to Ndongeni and there were moments when it looked like he could break the hearts of South African boxing followers.

However, Ndongeni, a former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight champion, warmed up and dropped Khongsong in the fourth round following some nice combinations.

Ndongeni, a two-time South African champion, landed a big right hand which sent Khongsong to the canvas in the sixth round. Ndongeni decked Khongsong for the second time in the same round.

KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni floored Khongsong for the fourth time in this bout in the seventh round finishing the fight. Khongsong’s last 13 fights have ended in stoppages with him winning 10 of those and losing thrice.

Meanwhile, former IBO and SA junior-featherweight champion Ludumo Lamati stopped Filipino boxer Mark Anthony Geraldo in the fourth round.

Fighting for the first time in the featherweight division, Lamati beat Geraldo with a body shot which sent him to the canvas. Referee Sihle Zungu waved off the fight after that.
