Morocco have reached the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals after they beat Canada 2-1 in a final group stages match at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday evening.

Hakim Ziyech gave the Atlas Lions an early lead after he scored in the fourth minute. Youssef En-Nesyri made it 2-0 when he became the first Moroccan footballer to score in two World Cup tournaments – 2018 and 2022.

The Canadians pulled one back through Nayef Aguerd’s own goal in the 40th minute. Aguerd scored the tournament’s first own goal after he turned Sam Adekugbe’s cross into his own net.

Meanwhile, Croatia also advanced to the last-16 following a goalless draw with Belgium at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
