Undisputed 27-year-old female world champion Clarissa Shields from the United States is coming to South Africa in two months’ time.

The World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) female middleweight champion is coming to SA to attend the convention of the World Boxing Federation (WBF).

The WBF convention is going to be held at the Premier Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town, from 22-26 March.

“Claressa Shields is coming to our convention. There are also other fighters, who are coming,” WBF president Howard Goldberg, a former fight judge and referee, confirmed.

Shields from Michigan in the US is the undisputed female world champion after she added the WBO belt to her titles following her win over Savannah Marshall from the United Kingdom in October last year. Shields has won all her 13 fights while 31-year-old Marshall has 12 wins and a loss.

Meanwhile, Goldberg said about the convention: “Preparations are going well. I met the City of Cape Town. I also had a meeting with Minister of Sport (Nathi Mthethwa). We’ve got people coming from Germany, France, Belgium and Kuwait.

“I want everybody to know everybody. I’m hoping we will get between 60 and 100 people. We’ve got a medical seminar, a referees’ and judges’ seminar as well as trainers’ seminar.”
