Even though the police are yet to confirm it, Ink Sport can reveal that the alleged killer of the late Mfusi Maxhayi is behind bars after he handed himself on Friday, more than two weeks after being on the run.

Maxhayi, who was laid to rest in Ilitha township, Ntabozuko, in the Buffalo City Metro, last Saturday, passed away after he was shot in Mdantsane more than two weeks ago. He was 35 years old.

A source said to Ink Sport: “The suspect handed himself over to the cops today (Friday) and the Maxhayi family has since been informed about the latest developments.”

Maxhayi, who was based in Johannesburg where he was a fitness trainer, had only come back to the Eastern Cape for the festive season when he met his untimely death.

Originally from Ilitha township in Ntabozuko, Maxhayi is a former Eastern Cape, IBO International and World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight champion.

Maxhayi lost on points to Bongani Mahlangu in his failed bid to win the South African junior-featherweight title at the Orient Theatre in East London in September 2015.
