Late replacement George Kandulo from Malawi silenced the crowd at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) as he stunned favourite Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha with a sixth round stoppage on Sunday evening.

Nobody saw it coming as Tyirha was cruising until Kandulo caught him and it was lights out for the former South African junior-flyweight champion.

Kandulo came in as a late substitute after Filipino boxer Lito ‘Naruto’ Dante had pulled out of a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinenal junior-flyweight title against Tyirha.

This was the second successive stoppage victory for the Malawian boxer as he did the same to Siphelele Myeza in Ladysmith in March this year.
