Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford’s dominance over his American compatriot Errol Spence Junior during their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States, on Sunday morning (South African time) proved to be a big difference as he stopped his opponent in the ninth round.
With fight referee Harvey Dock having been forced to intervene on Spence’s behalf as he was solidly punished, this meant that Crawford added the International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’ welterweight titles to his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) belt.
The 35-year-old Crawford decked Spence three times – once in the second round and twice in the seventh round – during the one-sided affair. He has won all his 40 fights with 31 of those wins coming from stoppages while the 33-year-old Spence dropped to 28 victories (22 knockouts) and a defeat.
Crawford is now a unified world champion something the welterweight division has not experienced since 2004 during the four-belt era.
