Just as he thought he had secured himself a fight outside the South African borders, an injury put paid to national featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi’s trip to Tanzania.

Batyi, who drew with Capetonian Abdul-Azziz Kunert in his first title defence in Cape Town in August, was due to face off against experienced Tanzanian boxer Nasibu Ramadhani Shemtendwa in Tanzania on Saturday, 21 October.

A minor injury has since robbed Nxarhuni-born Batyi of an opportunity to get his second fight in two months.

“Batyi’s fight in Tanzania is off due to an injury. His leg is swollen and he cannot even run,” Paradise Boxing Club manager Thembelani Shakes Hlombe revealed.

Meanwhile, Hlombe also revealed that former South African minimumweight and junior-flyweight champion Siphamandla Baleni’s fight in Russia has been moved to November.

Baleni, trained by former world champion Simphiwe Vetyeka, was scheduled to fight in Russia against on Saturday, 21 October. His camp was waiting for the name of the opponent when the fight got rescheduled.
