A nine-man Chippa United were lucky to come away with a point as they drew 1-1 with AmaZulu in a DStv Premiership clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.

Usuthu took the lead after Riaan Hanamub swung in a corner kick from the left and Ramahlwe Mphahlele flicked it on for Mbongeni Gumede to score in the 27th minute.

The Chilli Boys were reduced to 10 men when Thabiso Lebitso was red carded in the 57th minute after he deliberately kicked Ethan Brooks. The latter had fouled Lebitso and had already been penalised for the foul by the time the Chilli Boys midfielder kicked him.

Something strange happened when Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa scored a own goal following some pressure from Elmo Kambindu in the 79th minute.

The Eastern Cape side were once again reduced further when Kambindu was sent for an early shower after a second bookable offence in referee’s added time.
