Following an impressive performance on his way to winning the vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) mini-flyweight title at the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall in Sada on Sunday evening, Siyakholwa Kuse made a bold statement saying no one is going to beat him now.
Kuse was on top of his game putting his opponent Khalid Kalama Ally from Tanzania under pressure as almost all his punches found the intended target. It only became a matter of time before fight referee Siphiwo Mbini intervened on behalf of the Tanzanian in the eighth round.
“Nobody is going to beat me now. The fight was not that difficult. It’s just that I fought against a tough boxer, who took too much punishment,” Kuse remarked.
“The fight was one sided. I landed many heavy blows, but the guy kept on going. I then decided to box him. He was always looking for a lucky punch, but he couldn’t get that.”
The ABU belt was Kuse’s second title win in just five months as he reclaimed the South African minimumweight crown after a dominant performance against Bangile Nyangani at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in July this year.
“I’m very happy to have achieved that. That encourages me to work even harder at the gym,” the 23-year-old Kuse from Mdantsane said.
“I’m thinking about defending my SA title or maybe defend the ABU belt as well. It will be great to defend the SA title as I couldn’t do it the first time I held it. I lost it while I was trying to make my first defence.”
