Given a choice and with Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu agreeing to meet him, Mzuvukile ‘Old Bones’ Magwaca would face off against the reigning South African junior-featherweight champion this year.

And to make his intentions clear, Duncan Village-born Magwaca has revealed that he sent a challenge form to Boxing South Africa (BSA). However, he’s yet to receive a response to the challenge form he sent towards the end of 2023.

“We sent a challenge form in November. That was not the first time we sent a challenge form to fight against Mahlangu. He demanded a big purse the first time we sent a challenge form last year. My promoter didn’t have that kind of money. We hope that Mahlangu will agree to fight against me this time around,” the former World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight champion said.

Magwaca, who was stopped in the first round by Mexican boxer Bryan Mercado Vazquez in Fresnillo, Mexico, last October, is rated number one in South Africa.

On the other hand, the 44-year-old Mahlangu suffered a controversial loss to Tanzanian Fadhili Omari Majiha in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa junior-featherweight title fight in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, in October last year.

Sandile Mahlangu, who manages Mahlangu, said: “I know nothing about the latest challenge. However, I can confirm that we were in talks with Magwaca last year, but nothing materialised out of those talks. We then went on to fight against Mduduzi Mzimela and we fought Luthando Mbumbulwana after that.”
