Recently appointed as the accounting authority at Boxing South Africa (BSA), Mandla Ntlanganiso is happy with the new developments in the South African fistic sport even though he doesn’t want to say much as he prefers his work to do all the talking.
Ntlanganiso was announced by Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, as BSA accounting authority on Friday last week. Kodwa said that Ntlanganiso’s appointment was made in line with the provisions of National Treasury, in terms of Section 49(2) of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Kodwa appointed Ntlanganiso to the top job on the back of a successful interdict brought by the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) against his decision to appoint a new BSA board made up of Sifiso Shongwe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Romy Titus, Princess Mangoma, Nande Mheshe and Dr Mary-Gene Manthata-Setati.
“It would be great to have tournaments every week. I will be happy to see boxers getting fights,” Ntlanganiso said.
It’s been difficult to stage boxing tournaments since the beginning of the year owing to the impasse between the NPBPA and Kodwa. However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel now.
Meanwhile, Ntlanganiso joined BSA as director of operations in January 2022 and had been acting chief executive officer since December last year.
