A birthday gift in the form of a win is what boxing champion Asemahle ‘The Predator’ Wellem is looking forward to as he prepares to leave South Africa for Tanzania where he has a date with unbeaten Tanzanian boxer Selemani ‘Mamba’ Kidunda this coming Friday.

Wellem, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Thursday last week, will be making the first defence of his World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Intercontinental super-middleweight title when he collides against the 40-year-old Kidunda at The Warehouse, Masaki, in Dar-Es-Salaam.

“We are going there for a win and we will come back home with our title. There’s no way that Kidunda can beat me,” the unbeaten Chintsa-born Wellem, who has won all his seven fights, said.

This is going to be Wellem’s second visit to Tanzania in less than a year. In his first visit to the East African country, Wellem won the WBF title after he defeated Tanzanian boxer Twaha Kassimu Rubaha on points in July last year.

Wellem, the reigning South African super-middleweight champion, leaves for Tanzania on Tuesday together with his promoter Happy Tewo of Tewo Promotions, his trainer Phumzile ‘Sweet Chocolate’ Matyhila and manager Siya Zingelwa.
