South African champion Zolisa Batyi reckons that Yamkela Phaliso is lucky to have pulled out of their fight, which was scheduled for the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday, 31 March.

Phaliso withdrew from the fight citing a wrist injury and Batyi is now going to defend his South African featherweight title against Lucky Hobyane, who is rated number six in the ratings.

“It’s just unlucky that I’m not going to fight against Phaliso anymore. The guy had said a lot and he’s lucky because I wanted to shut his mouth. I wanted to show him something,” Batyi said.

And Batyi, who is trained by 2023 Trainer of the Year award winner Khangelani Jack, is, however, not complaining as he’s busy preparing for a clash against Hobyane whom he has admitted that he’s more like a closed book to him.

“Honestly speaking, I know nothing about Hobyane. But I don’t have any problem in facing him, especially now that I’m fit and ready to go. The most important thing here is to listen to my trainer and do as per his instructions,” Batyi remarked.
