Filipino boxer Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta has confirmed to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) that he’s injured and will be out for six months.

The Filipino southpaw’s left arm is in a cast, an injury that had been kept a secret for some time. That was so until photos of his injured left arm started to emerge.

Araneta’s unavailability paves the way for IBF junior-flyweight champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga to defend his title against Japanese Masamichi Yabuki, who’s rated number two, or pursue a unification bout with another Japanese boxer Kenshiro ‘The Amazing’ Teraji.

“Sivenathi Nontshinga was supposed to fight Christian Araneta, but Araneta will be out for six months due to injury,” the IBF said.

Soon after Nontshinga regained his IBF title following a 10th round stoppage win over Mexican boxer Adrian Curiel Dominguez in Oaxaca, Mexico, almost three months ago, Araneta made a lot of noise about a rematch between the two boxers.

The 25-year-old Nontshinga from the Eastern Cape outpointed Araneta in an elimination bout at the Boardwalk Casino in Gqeberha in April 2021.
