Bible-punching Masibulele ‘Hawk’ Makepula is the latest addition to the Boxing South Africa (BSA) sanctioning committee as his inclusion was ratified at the regulator’s bosberaad in Muldersdrift.

The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and World Boxing Union (WBU) junior-flyweight champion joined the sanctioning committee to fill the gap created by Siya Vabaza-Booi’s departure.

Vabaza-Booi is now the BSA provincial manager in the Eastern Cape having replaced long-serving Phakamile Jacobs last month.

The sanctioning committee is chaired by the regulator’s board member Dr Luvuyo Bayeni with erstwhile SA lightweight titlist Irvin Buhlalu, Tinyiko Nkatingi, a former BSA provincial manager in Limpopo, and journalist Droeks Malan being the other members.

On the other hand, the ratings committee is chaired by Andre de Vries, who works together with ex-IBO bantamweight champion Silence Mabuza, former SA junior-welterweight king Nika Kumalo and Xolile Dike.

Meanwhile, the Back to Basics programme, which is aimed at reviving the fistic sport is going to be headed by former BSA director of operations Loyiso Mtya.

The former SA middleweight champion is not new to this programme as he together with Stan Christodoulou and Khulile Radu were given the same task by the previous BSA board in 2021.
