Orlando Pirates advanced to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup following a 3-1 victory over Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) outfit Baroka FC at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday. 

The Buccaneers took the lead when Tshegofatso Mabasa scored from Deon Hotto’s assist in the 29th minute.

Mabasa netted his second goal of the match off Patrick Maswanganyi’s assist on the stroke of half-time. And Mabasa, formerly with Moroka Swallows, then completed his hattrick after he was fed by Maswanganyi in the 63rd minute.

Baroka’s Sydney Malivha beat Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine from a free kick outside the box in the 75th minute. 

Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after they defeated AmaZulu 1-0 through Junior Zindoga’s goal at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Mangaung.
