Bafana Bafana were held to a goalless draw by Nicaragua in an international friendly match at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Friday evening.
Bafana had an opportunity to score only for Burnley striker Lyle Foster to hit the woodwork from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. Bafana were awarded a penalty after Kamogelo Sebelebele was fouled inside the box.
Coach Hugo Broos’ boys used the Nicaragua match to prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament, which is going to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States of America (USA) from Thursday, 11 June to Sunday, 19 July.
Bafana open Group A with a clash against co-hosts Mexico in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June. And it will be exactly 16 years since Bafana drew 1-1 with the Mexicans in the 2010 World Cup opening match at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
