Between next week and September, Cape Town-based boxing trainer Felix Venganayi is going to be the busiest trainer as he will be guiding eight boxers into battle in three different provinces.

Venganayi’s hectic schedule starts with leading Wasim Chellan and Tarisa Mutatsu into action at the Fourways Farmers Market in Johannesburg on Friday, 26 June. Chellan will be coming up against Namibian opponent Paulus Amavila while Mutatsu is set to trade blows with Kabisile Tshabalala.

After leading Chellan and Mutatsu, Venganayi will be in Simamkele Tutsheni’s corner when she faces unbeaten Zimbabwean opponent Monica Mkandla at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 11 July.

Even though the Mkandla fight is very important to Tutsheni, her International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa female junior-welterweight title won’t be at stake during the clash.

“I have eight boxers who will be fighting at different tournaments. Chellan and Mutatsu are fighting in Johannesburg next week. I will then return to Johannesburg for Sima’s fight against Monica, which is going to be an eight rounder. Most of my fighters have fights in August,” Venganayi remarked.

After Tutsheni’s fight, Venganayi will lead Philani Mfaku and Zenan Williams who fight against Nasrullar Nazier and Justin Campher respectively. These fights are going to be held at the Grand West Casino in Goodwood, Cape Town, on Saturday, 8 August.

Unbeaten Kaya Mlata will be in action when he fights in a World Boxing Council (WBC) International junior-featherweight title against a soon-to-be confirmed opponent at the Cabo Beach, V and A Waterfront, Cape Town, on Saturday, 15 August. Abongile Mdlazi fights against Takalani Ramuedi in the same bill.

And the last fight will be when Venganayi’s son Owen fights Awonke Tini in KuGompo City. Owen is fresh from a shock points loss to Asiphe Ntshili. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
