An ankle injury has forced Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Lebohang Maboe, to withdraw from the Bafana Bafana squad on Tuesday afternoon.
Maboe picked up the injury while playing for Amakhosi in a Betway Premiership encounter against Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday.
Bafana are in camp preparing for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Saturday afternoon. Thereafter, Bafana clash with Eritrea at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday next week and also have an international friendly match against the Egyptian Pharaohs at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October.
Bafana team doctor, Tshepo Molobi, revealed that Maboe reported in camp with an ankle injury on Sunday evening. And after scans were conducted on him on Monday, a decision was taken to withdraw him.
“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” Molobi said.
Meanwhile, Bafana coach, Pitso Mosimane has since called up Orlando Pirates midfielder, Tshepang Moremi, as Maboe’s replacement.
