Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe’s candidature for the position of president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has received the backing of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA).
Motsepe is facing stiff opposition from former president of the Ivorian Football Federation Jacques Anouma, Senegalese Football Federation president Augustin Emmanuel Senghor and Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (FFRMI) president Ahmed Yahya.
“I can confirm that the executive of COSAFA has endorsed the candidature of Patrice Motsepe such that the bloc should support him since he is the only candidate from our region. And we trust that most of the members in the COSAFA region are happy with him,” COSAFA president Phillip Chiyangwa said.
“We know he is a capable man, no doubt he will probably get unanimous support throughout Africa. Yes, we are now fully fledged on the campaign for his candidature to succeed president Ahmed. We hope and trust that it is going to be a successful mission.”
The elections are going to be held in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday, 12 March.
