Hunger for success is going to be the main driver when Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi challenges Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai next month.
Komanisi is aiming to dethrone South African lightweight champion Munyai when they meet at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 17 September.
“We are working very hard preparing for this fight. We know how important it is for us to win this fight,” Komanisi, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, said.
Komanisi from Mdantsane is happy that he will be fighting far away from home as he said on numerous occasions that East London boxing fans don’t appreciate him.
“I will always fight away from home and I’m comfortable with that. I’m going to win this fight, there’s no doubt about that. My trainer has devised a very good game plan for the fight,” he said.
The former SA and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight titlist will be fighting for the second time at the Kempton Park venue. He lost by a stoppage to Michael Mokoena in his first and last fight at the venue in September 2018.
Komanisi has, however, not lost a fight since his defeat by Siphosethu Mvula in June 2019. He has won his last five fights, with four of those via the short distance.
