Inching towards becoming the outright owner of the South African lightweight belt is going to be the driving force behind Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai during his fight against Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi next month.
Munyai is going to make the fourth defence of his SA lightweight title when he clashes with Komanisi at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 17 September.
“We are doing very well with our preparations for the fight. This is our title and I’m going to make sure that no one takes it away from me, that includes Komanisi,” Munyai, who is trained by Alan Toweel, said.
“They have said it now and again that they would take my title, but they always fall. The same is gonna happen with Komanisi because he’s going to fall, I have no doubt about that.”
Having defended his title three times already, the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion is looking at achieving yet another successful defence.
“This title is here to stay. I want to own the belt. Winning against Komanisi will leave me with only one more win before I become an outright owner of the belt,” Munyai remarked.
The 37-year-old champion, who is originally from Makwarela in Limpopo, has successfully defended his title against Aphiwe Mboyiya, Sanele Msimang and Khaya Busakwe since winning it in a fight against Siphosethu Mvula in March 2020.
