The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro’s appeal as a tourist destination has forced Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) to take its 25 April tournament to Gqeberha instead of East London.
The much-awaited tournament, which is headlined by an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout between knockout artist Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and Filipino boxer Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta, is going to be held at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha.
The winner of this fight is going to get a crack at current IBF junior-flyweight champion Felix Alvarado from Nicaragua.
Ink Sport has gathered that the Department of Tourism advised RAP to take the tournament to either Gqeberha or the Wild Coast. RAP opted for Gqeberha because of the city’s marketability and training facilities compared to the Wild Coast.
Araneta and his handlers are expected to land in South Africa two weeks before the tournament. They will then go to a bio-bubble together with local boxers.
