Patrice Motsepe, the new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), promises to change the face of the continent’s football.
Motsepe, who was confirmed as CAF president at the organisation’s 43rd congress in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday, is the first boss from Anglophone Africa to lead African football.
“We spend lots of money on European football and our new negotiations on TV rights should benefit African football. The face of African football will never be the same. We need to make things happen, African football should globally be competitive,” Motsepe said.
Motsepe became the only presidential candidate after Ahmed Yahya from Mauritania, Senegalese Augustin Senghor and Jacques Anouma from Ivory Coast withdrew from the race last week.
The 59-year-old South African billionaire whose four-year term as CAF president will end in 2025 has thanked FIFA president Gianni Infantino for the work he has done for the beautiful game.
Meanwhile, Minister of Sport and Recreation Nathi Mthethwa has congratulated Motsepe.
