Former Proteas captain and batsman Hashim Amla announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Wednesday.
Durban-born Amla made his Proteas debut in 2004 and went on to score 18 672 runs across all formats of the game. He became South Africa’s first triple centurion when he knocked an unbeaten 311 in a match against England at The Oval in 2012.
Amla was the fastest South African cricketer go reach 10 centuries in one day internationals. The 39-year-old Amla captained the Proteas between June 2014 and January 2016. He hit 28 Test centuries in 124 appearances and also played in 27 ODIs.
