Yanga Phaliso from Mdantsane silenced Mthatha boxing followers when he stopped local boxer Sange Ngoza at the OR Tambo Hall in the third round of their fight on Sunday afternoon.
Asa result of his stoppage victory over Mthatha-born Ngoza, Phaliso is now the new Eastern Cape featherweight champion. Referee Mandisile Mkile stopped the fight much to the Ngoza camp’s disapproval as they believed that the decision to stop proceedings was taken too soon.
Meanwhile, Awonke Tini defeated Nasiphi Mdlangazi by a second round stoppage in the main supporting bout of the Tewo Promotions tournament.
