Legendary Zambia and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene announced his retirement from the beautiful game on Monday.
The 38-year-old Mweene, who joined Sundowns from Free State Stars in 2013, retired after winning a record 16 trophies with the Tshwane giants.
Eight league titles, three Nedbank Cup trophies, two Telkom Knockout gold medals, one MTN8, CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.
Mweene was also in the Chipolopolo squad, which won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations trophy. He’s Zambia’s most capped player having made 123 appearances for Chipolopolo.
“Today, I announce the end of my playing career. Now I can’t wait to get started and really enjoy my other passion,” Mweene said on Monday.
Having retired as a player, Mweene has since been appointed as an assistant to Sundowns goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson.
