Shoulder injuries picked up in his last two fights have forced former South African junior-lightweight champion Sibusiso Zingange to move up two divisions.

Zingange from Benoni, Ekurhuleni, lost his SA title to Lunga Sitemela after he dislocated his left shoulder in the 10th round while attempting to make his first successful defence in Johannesburg in May last year. He had won the national title after he dethroned former champion Phila Mpontshane three months earlier.

Zingange was unlucky yet again when he dislocated his right shoulder in an eight rounds bout against Asanda Gingqi in East London four months ago.

“I have recently decided to move up to the junior-welterweight division. I moved up two divisions because I believe that my shoulder injuries might have something to do with me pushing too much while preparing for fights and trying to make the required weight. I believe that I won’t have problems now that I will be fighting at junior-welterweight,” Zingange said.

The 30-year-old, who is still rated in the junior-lightweight division, is looking at making his junior-welterweight debut either in September or October this year.
