Spain reached their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final after they beat Sweden 2-1 in a semi-final encounter at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand, on Tuesday.
All the three goals were scored in the last 10 minutes of the match as second half substitute Salma Paralluelo put the Spaniards in front in the 81st minute. Paralluelo had only been on the field for 24 minutes after she had substituted Alexias Putellas.
Another second half substitute Rebecka Blomqvist equalised for the Swedes in the 88th minute. Blomqvist had entered the fray in the 77th minute after she replaced Stina Blackstenius.
The Spaniards reacted quickly as Olga Carmona’s shot from long range hit the back of the net to restore their lead in the 90th minute.
