The Springboks became the most successful team in Rugby World Cup history after they won the tournament for the fourth time following a 12-11 victory over the All Blacks at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France, on Saturday evening.

A challenge on Jesse Kriel earned All Blacks captain Sam Cane a yellow card, which was later upgraded to red leaving the New Zealanders minus one man on the field. This was the first red card ever in a Rugby World Cup final.

Flyhalf Handre Pollard, who was not in the initial World Cup squad, scored all the Boks’ points from four penalties to ensure that the South Africans won back-to-back titles.

All Blacks flyhalf Richie Mo’unga successfully converted two penalties and fullback Beauden Barrett scored the only try of the match.
