Eastern Cape boxing stakeholders are going to pay a visit to the home of much-loved departed glove steward Louis Smith, who passed away early on Tuesday this week. He was 96.
According to Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in the Eastern Cape, Phakamile Jacobs, the stakeholders will visit the deceased’s home in Thembalethu Location in East London at 14h00 on Sunday.
Smith, who was one of most recognisable figures and constant features in Eastern Cape boxing, especially in the Buffalo City Metropolitan, had been a glove steward for many years. And by the time of his death, Smith had not been active in boxing because of advanced age and ill-health.
Due to his dedication to the fistic sport, Smith received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Boxing Awards ceremony, which was held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban last June.
