Gavin Hunt was almost speechless after his team Kaizer Chiefs were beaten 2-1 by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday evening.
The Chiefs coach had a reason to be almost speechless as Amakhosi have collected only one point in their last three matches.
“Difficult to explain. I don’t know. It’s mind boggling. It’s inexcusable to make mistakes like that,” Hunt said after the match.
It looked like the match was going to end in a 1-1 draw until referee Victor Hlungwani awarded TTM a penalty at the death. This was after Siyabonga Ngezana had handled the ball inside the box. Thabo Mnyamane converted the spot kick to give Vhadau Vha Damani the three points. Thabo Rakhale scored TTM’s first goal while Lebo Manyama netted for Chiefs.
“Same player. Certainly, you got your backs against the wall doesn’t help. It is what it is,” Hunt said.
Amakhosi are now left with four matches against Swallows FC (home), Black Leopards (away), Lamontville Golden Arrows (home) and TS Galaxy (away).
“I’ve got four games left. We gonna try and win,” the former Bidvest Wits mentor said.
Meanwhile, TTM coach Dylan Kerr is happy with the result as they moved from 15th to 14th on the Premiership standings with 25 points from 25 games.
“I’m very, very pleased. Very, very happy for the players. Against Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a very tough game even though they had 10 men. Credit to the players, they showed determination and character,” Kerr said.
The former Leopards coach questioned the manner in which Hlungwani awarded a penalty to Chiefs.
“Whether it was a penalty or not the referee made the decision, it wasn’t. Why he came over the halfway line to speak to the assistant and fourth official and reversed the decision is beyond me because the referee is the man in charge,” he said.
