A date has been set for probably one of the biggest fights involving two female boxers in South Africa as Eastern Cape fighters Nozipho Bell and Bukiwe ‘Anaconda’ Nonina will go toe-to-toe next month.

Originally from Walmer in Gqeberha, Bell is set to return to the ring after being inactive for more than a year as she defends her South African female junior-lightweight title against Nonina from Dutywa.

“We have not signed a contract yet. However, it was confirmed last week that the fight is on the 26th of April,” Bell’s manager Lonki Witbooi confirmed.

The clash against Nonina, who is a former SA and World Boxing Federation (WBF) female bantamweight champion, is going to be Bell’s first fight since she stopped Mashudu Ramakwelo in the second round at the Babs Madlakane Hall in KwaNobuhle, Kariega, in December 2022.

Meanwhile, Nonina’s last fight was a technical draw with Zimbabwean boxer Chiedza Homakoma at Vodaworld, Midrand, in September.
