Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday morning confirmed the sad news of the passing away of their defender Luke Fleurs.
The 24-year-old Fleurs was shot dead during a hijacking in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.
“It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs, tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg,” a Chiefs statement said on Thursday morning.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. The SAPS are handling the matter and further details will be communicated in due course. May his dear soul rest in peace.”
Fleurs joined Kaizer Chiefs on a two-year contract with an option to renew for one year from SuperSport United last October. Fleurs played 70 times for Matsatsantsa a Pitori.
